Out on the plains, wind runs the show
Windsor has no foothills to hide behind. Winter wind drives straight across the fields and pushes cold air through every weak seal, outlet box, and attic hatch in the house. A furnace that looks fine on paper can run almost nonstop in a leaky Windsor home, and the fix is often duct sealing and weatherstripping, not a bigger furnace.
Summer flips the problem. The plains sun is strong, the air is dry, and dust rides the wind off the farm ground around town. Filters load up faster here than in sheltered neighborhoods, and a clogged filter is the simplest cause of weak cooling we see. Hail rolls through in spring and early summer, too, and outdoor coils take the hits.
Lake cottages, Kodak-era homes, and Water Valley
Windsor's housing tells three different stories. Around Windsor Lake and the old downtown core, you'll find smaller homes from the town's early decades, many updated in pieces over the years. Their furnaces tend to be older, their ductwork improvised, and their owners practical: fix it right, tell me what it costs, don't oversell me. We like working that way.
The old Kodak Colorado plant employed generations of Windsor families, and the neighborhoods from that era are solid mid-century homes now reaching the age where original ductwork and second-generation furnaces need real attention. Then there's the new Windsor: Water Valley's golf-course homes, large and heavily zoned, the family subdivisions at Raindance with their hillside lots and big western views, and the neighborhoods still pushing the town's edges in every direction. Big new homes need their systems commissioned and balanced, because a 4,000-square-foot house with one cold wing is a duct problem until proven otherwise.
Between the subdivisions, Windsor still has working farm ground and acreage homes on its outskirts, especially toward Severance and the county line. Those properties often run propane heat, keep shops and barns that need their own systems, and sit far enough from the street that a no-heat night is a long, cold wait. We serve the acreage as gladly as the subdivisions, and we'll talk through backup heat and heat pump pairings that cut the propane bill without giving up reliability.
